Principal's Catch Up
Shirley Bailey
Kia ora whānau,
It’s hard to believe we only have seven weeks left in the school year! This year is zipping by.
Staff Learning is in FULL swing ...
Professional learning is essential for our staff, ensuring they’re equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to provide the best education for our tamariki. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication our team is putting into their learning and development as professional educators. By staying engaged in ongoing professional growth, they bring innovative ideas and approaches back to the classroom, helping our students thrive.
- Our four teachers who attended the structured literacy professional learning last week came back buzzing with new ideas and are excited to bring these fresh strategies into their classrooms.
- Last Friday’s Teacher Only Day was fantastic, giving us an opportunity to delve into the newly released literacy curriculum. The whole team is really inspired by what the new curriculum will offer our tamariki.
- Mrs. Pyman and I had an excellent day at St. Patrick’s School this week, working with Jo Knox from The Learner First team. We both gained valuable insights into some truly engaging mathematics activities that our kids will love. Mrs. Pyman couldn’t wait to try some of these activities with her class! If your child does Maths with Mrs Pyman, you might like to ask them what they've been learning.
Looking ahead, Week 4 is packed with events:
- Tuesday: Scooter Safety for Tui, Pīwakawaka, and Pīrere classes, followed by an afternoon with the talented Storylines team of authors and storytellers working with each class.
- Wednesday: School Athletics Day, starting at approximately 12 pm. Whānau are warmly encouraged to attend and cheer on our young athletes!
- Thursday & Friday: Students will work on their flower art or technology projects, which will be on display for you to enjoy on Friday. Our prize-giving for these amazing creations will be held at 12:30 pm, following Pet Day judging.
- Friday: Our annual Pet Day! There’s still time to register if you haven’t yet—just see the link below for more details. The Friends of Kuratau School group will be organising a sausage sizzle and selling baked treats, so please send along some coins with your child. All proceeds will go toward funding a new swing set!
I look forward to seeing many of you at these exciting events next week! Have a fantastic weekend.
Ngā mihi nui,
