Principal's Catch Up

Welcome to the end of Week 3! We are well into Term 3, and there's lots of learning happening across the school. Everyone is loving the new playground and there's always lots of action happening on the field each break time. It's fantastic to see our tamariki being active outside on these glorious winter days.
This week, our teachers have started the Relationships and Sexuality programme. Our students are positively engaging with the key messages they are learning. Remember to talk to your children about the learning they are doing in this area. Please note: an overview of the Relationships & Sexuality Programme, and what is taught at each Year level, was emailed to all families at the start of Term 3. If you have any queries about this programme, please get in touch with me: shirleyb@kuratau.school.nz .
Cross Country training is in full swing, and it's awesome seeing our tamariki getting outdoors on our neighbouring farm - Waituhi Kuratau. Big thanks to Ali Reid for letting us use his paddocks. The track is fantastic and provides some exciting challenges for everyone, with mud, water, and hills to navigate. Remember to pack some spare clothes in your child's bag each day. Even though the mud can largely be avoided, our kids seem to love wading through every muddy patch they can find! :-). This coming Friday (16th August), we will be holding our school Cross Country event. Check out the details below. We hope to see lots of whānau come up to school to support our runners.
Have you booked your hui-a-whānau time yet? These will be held in Week 5 - Monday, 19th August, and Tuesday, 20th August. Check out the booking instructions below.
On Tuesday 6th August, Constable Tash presented to a small number of parents about Cyber Safety and Social Media. This was a super informative evening. Some key messages that I took away were:
On Tuesday 6th August, Constable Tash presented to a small number of parents about Cyber Safety and Social Media. This was a super informative evening. Some key messages that I took away were:
- Adults must be positive role models when it comes to technology use.
- Parents | Caregivers should know what their children are doing online. Get to know the games and social media platforms they are using.
- Social Media isn't all bad. Teach our children how to be responsible online.
- Listen to our children and get them to talk about what they are doing online.
- Become familiar with Netsafe's Online Safety Parent Toolkit.
Next week is shaping up to be another busy week with Snow Squad on Wednesday, Cross Country Friday and its Maths Week! Mrs Pyman will be organising some fun Maths activities for the whole school to take part in.
Have a super week, we hope to see lots of you at school on Friday to support our tamariki as they compete in our annual School Cross Country.
