What's been happening at our Kura?
What a fantastic couple of weeks it has been. Last Friday our students raised $85.40 for the Pink Shirt Day Movement. School was a sea of pink and our senior students did a fantastic job of organising a fun day for everyone. We fully support the Pink Shirt Day kaupapa of stamping out bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion.
On Friday 12th May teachers spent a fantastic night at Poukura marae learning about the whakapapa of Ngāti Parekaawa. Huge thanks to Mrs Hunt for organising and to Poukura Marae for hosting us - we definitley learnt a lot. This learning links to the mahi our staff are doing to grow their Tūwharetoa cultural knowledge. Poukura is a special place and we all came away feeling relaxed and refreshed after our noho experience.
Last Thursday our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed their morning in Turangi, visiting the Tūhura Tuarangi / Aotearoa in Space Roadshow and the Turangi Police Station. Huge thanks to Tongariro Area School and Tere Morunga for hosting our school. Our learners discovered lots of new learning from both experiences.
Please read the section below about the possibility of upcoming teacher strike action on Wedensday 31st May.
We will be welcoming Kirsty Tatere back to our school again on Monday 29th May to work with our teachers as they continue to develop their knowledge and understanding around how to teach using a Structured Literacy approach. This is exciting mahi and we are definitley noticing big improvements in phonological awareness and spelling.
Our senior students have been enjoying learning how to play Tackle 5 with Tavita Ngata. This tournament will be held in Turangi on Wednesday 7th June, with the first game starting at 10am. We are hoping to enter 2 teams (1 boys and 1 girls). More details will come home early next week from Mrs Pyman.
The year 6 students will be in Turangi all day next Tuesday the 30th completing the stage two cycle safety course. Mrs Hunt has notified all our Year 6 families.

Happy Friday to you all. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and let's hope we get to enjoy a weekend without ANY rain. It has been so awesome to have a week of chilly, frostry mornings and bright, warm sunny days. Long may that last.
