Welcome to Week 5!
This term is whizzing by. Only four weeks to go and Term 1 will be finished.
Over the last two weeks we have enjoyed some nice settled weather, which is a welcome change from all the rain.
Swimwell have been teaching swimming skills to each class over the last week and a half. They will finish their programme with us this Friday. Classes will continue to swim daily for as long as the weather permits.
Last week we held our Kai and Kōrero - Meet the Teacher evening. We had approximately 50% of our students attend with their caregivers. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet your child's teacher and hear about what your child does at school each day. It was great to see some families bring along their picnic dinner. The sausage sizzle and venison sandwiches went down a treat. Thank you to the BBQ crew for helping. Thank you also to the parents and caregivers who contributed their ideas to our Whānau Consultation questions. We appreciate and value your thoughts and ideas. It is important to us that we work together to make Kuratau School the best it can be for our tamariki.
This Friday we are holding our annual school triathlon. The weather forecast is looking to improve by mid morning and we have made the decision to delay the start time to 11.30am. We have 3 gazebos available to provide shelter for children. Should the weather deteriorate significantly during the day we will transport children back to school and notify all whānau. We hope to see lots of you at the Kuratau Boat Ramp tomorrow to support our triathlon. Remember to pack some warm clothes, rain jacket, sunhat, shoes, togs, towel, lunch box and drink. Big thanks to Mrs Pyman for organising this year's triathlon. Thanks also to the parent helpers who have offered their time.
You may be aware that all Primary and Intermediate school teachers and principals have been attending union meetings over the past 2-3 weeks, as they work through negotiations in relation to our collective agreements. There are significant strains facing the teaching profession and the union is working to get these addressed. After recent meetings teachers and principals rejected the latest offer and this week teachers (who are union members) across New Zealand voted as to whether to strike or not. The result of this is likely to be released later today. Thursday 16th March is the proposed day of the strike if the votes go this way. We will keep you up to date with the outcome of this strike ballot as this will obviously impact many of our families.
If you haven't already ... please:
